OUR STORY
True Change
Starts Within
The North LA County CARES Mentoring Movement (NLACC), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization in partnership with the National CARES, began its journey in 2011 with a visit from Susan L. Taylor to the Antelope Valley community (known as the "Forgotten City"). This journey started with a community call to the Faith Based Churches of the need for mentors. The call was answered by Gwendolynne Cole to create the 36th of 58 Affiliates, the NLACC, formerly named Antelope Valley CARES Mentoring Movement, in the United States.
Our strong voice for supporting and promoting responsible mentoring initiatives throughout the Northern LA County region to recruit, train, and connect mentors by continuing to sound the alarm and raise awareness of the state of emergency of the under resourced youth in our community that is growing.
Mentoring is a low-cost, high-yield solution to a growing crisis. We can longer standby and wait. When mentoring our youth is done well...everyone benefits.

DO SOMETHING
Black Youth
Suicide
Did you know? In the last ten years, suicide rates among Black youth ages five to eleven have doubled, while the rate among White youth in the same age group has declined.
Together, we can raise our voices to demand research be done, educate our parents and communities and ensure that our youth receive the love and healing they need to thrive.
